Beethoven's Herreweghe

Beethoven's Sixth Symphony is a monument to nature, an absolutely romantic analysis of all the elements that move the nature that surrounds us. Caspar David Friedrich did it with painting, Hölderlin did it with poetry and Beethoven did it with a very delicate orchestration and the construction of a symphony that is one of the most beautiful ever written. To the point that Wagner himself, in a way, pays homage to it in Siegfried's Rheinfahrt. Today the genius maestro Philippe Herreweghe has conducted this symphony at the Palau de la Música Catalana, an architectural venue that seems almost made expressly for Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, since all its forms are also inspired by nature. 

Herreweghe has always been a master of purity of sound and delicacy of form. Today, at the head of the Champs-Élysées orchestra, he has offered us a wonderful, crystalline, lively and at the same time vibrant reading of Symphony No. 6. The Parisian orchestra has a clear, compact and highly worked sound that makes it one of the best orchestras in all of France and one of the most interesting on the European scene. The sixth symphony is a pastoral poem by that calmer Beethoven who walked escaping from his troubles through the Prater or Heiligenstadt and today it has sounded a little less leisurely and more “Kraftig” if anything can be criticized. Next, the great musical moment that is the symphony number five, in this case much more introspective and linked to that Beethoven who was already closed in on himself and was fighting against the psychological evil of his deafness. We can notice it in the stormy force of his movements that even today are a harmonic castle of titanic and almost divine perfection. Herreweghe, almost without moving his hands, has brought out the clear, sublime and at the same time necessarily “Sturmig” sound of an orchestra that sounds almost by themselves. An evening where we enjoyed the sound and romantic harmony like never before with an unbeatable orchestra and conductor.

La sisena simfonia de Beethoven és una norma monument a la natura, una anàlisi absolutament romàntic de tots els elements que mouen la naturalesa que ens envolta. Caspar David Friedrich ho feu amb la pintura, Hölderlin ho feu amb la poesia i Beethoven  ho fa amb una orquestració delicadíssima i la construcció d’una simfonia que és de les més boniques que s’han escrit mai. Fins al punt que el mateix Wagner, en certa manera, li ret homenatge al Siegfrieds Rheinfahrt. Avui el cèlebre mestre Philippe Herreweghe ha dirigit aquesta simfonia al Palau de la Música Catalana, un recinte arquitectònic que sembla gairebé fet exprés per a la simfonia número sis de Beethoven, ja totes les seves formes s’inspiren també en la natura. 

Herreweghe ha sigut sempre un mestre de la puresa del so i de la delicadesa en les formes. Avui, al capdavant de l’orquestra del Champs-Élysées ens ha ofert una meravellosa lectura cristal·lina, viva i alhora vibrant de la simfonia número sis. L’Orquestra parisenca té un so nítid, compacte i molt treballat que la fa una de les millors orquestres de tot França i de les més interessants del panorama europeu. La sisena simfonia  és un poema pastoral d’aquell Beethoven més tranquil que passejava escapant dels seus mals pel Prater o per Heiligenstadt i avui ha sonat una mica menys pausada i més “Kraftig” si quelcom es pot criticar. Seguidament, el gran moment musical que és la simfonia número cinc, en aquest cas molt més introspectiva i lligada a aquell Beethoven que ja es trobava tancat en si mateix i lluitant contra el mal psicològic de la seva sordera. Ho podem notar en la força tempestuosa dels seus moviments que encara avui dia són un castell harmònic de perfecció titànica i quasi divina. Herreweghe, sense quasi moure les mans, ha fet brollar el so límpid, excels i alhora necessàriament “Sturmig” d’una orquestra que sona quasi per si sola.  Una vetllada on hem gaudit com mai del so i l'harmonia romàntica amb una orquestra i un director immillorables.
