The Unter den Linden opera house this week staged Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann with extraordinary set design by Lydia Steier. The set design is one of the best ever created for Offenbach's work—colorful, detailed, vibrant, and mysterious. The Staatskapelle, under the direction of the extraordinary Bertrand de Billy, was clear, cohesive, and brilliant.

The voices were the highlight of the evening. Pene Pati's Hoffmann was dramatic and powerful, filled with the transparent and warm timbre of his unique voice. Pati was radiant and sang a stunning Hoffmann, in one of his finest performances. His voice is increasingly establishing itself as one of the most notable in the entire operatic scene, and he increasingly demonstrates quality and skill.

Nina Minasyan took on the role of Olympia, showcasing the full range of her extraordinary voice at every moment, especially when she sang "Les oiseaux dans la charmille," one of the most memorable moments of the evening. Another such moment was when Sonja Herranen as Giulietta and Ema Nikolovska as Nicklausse sang the famous duet "Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour," where both displayed extraordinary vocal quality and musical sensitivity. Amina Edris as Antonia demonstrated excellent technical mastery and proved herself a soprano of great musical talent with a beautiful, well-balanced voice. Roberto Tagliavini, in the varied roles of Lindorf, Coppélius, Dr. Miracle, and Dapertutto, showcased the strength that baritones can possess when faced with such diverse challenges in a single role, as his performances were of superb musical quality. Also noteworthy were the promising voices of Ya-Chung Huang, Manuel Winckhler, David Oštrek and Álvaro Diana.

La ópera de Unter den Linden esta semana puso en escena Les Contes d'Hoffmann de Offenbach con una escenografía extraordinaria de Lydia Steier. La escenografía es una de las mejores que se han hecho para la pieza de Offenbach, colorista, detallista, vivaz y misteriosa. La Staatskapelle bajo la dirección de un extraordinario Bertrand de Billy ha resultado clara, homogénea y brillante.

Las voces resultaron lo mejor de la noche. El Hoffmann de Pene Pati es dramático y enorme, lleno del color transparente y cálido de su voz única. Pati estuvo radiante y cantó un Hoffmann impactante, en una de sus mejores actuaciones. Su voz cada vez va asentándose como una de las más notorias de todo el panorama operístico y cada vez denota más calidad y saber hacer. Nina Minasyan se puso en el papel de Olympia dejando ver todo el registro de su extraordinaria voz en cada momento, sobre todo cuando cantó Les oiseaux dans la charmille, uno de los momentos más memorables de la noche. Otro de esos momentos fue cuando Sonja Herranen como Giulietta y Ema Nikolovska como Nicklausse cantaron el famoso dueto Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour, donde las dos mostraron una calidad vocal y una sensibilidad musical extraordinarias. Amina Edris como Antonia mostró un dominio técnico excelente y ser una soprano de gran talento musical y voz calibrada y bella. Roberto Tagliavini en los variados papeles de Lindorf, Coppélius, Dr. Miracle y Dapertutto, mostró la fuerza que pueden tener los barítonos cuando deben afrontar tan variadas dificultades en un papel, ya que sus apariciones fueron de una calidad musical superba. Destacaron también las voces prometedoras de Ya-Chung Huang, Manuel Winckhler, David Oštrek y Álvaro Diana.
