Astonishing cast of stars at the MET with La Bohéme

Tonight, The Metropolitan Opera House once again staged Puccini's legendary La Bohéme in Franco Zeffirelli's marvelous production. A colorful, detailed, and thrilling production—especially in the second act, where the Café Momus is a true stage spectacle—but not only are the costumes, sets, and props incredible; the cast chosen to begin this year's production (which will be replaced with other casts throughout 2025 and 2026) is stellar.

Freddie de Tommaso, leaving behind his endless tour of Tosca with which he triumphed worldwide, returns to one of his most accomplished roles. His Rodolfo aligns with the best of the vocal tradition that preceded him and delivers a masterful performance, where his voice is amplified like never before and becomes a true sonic marvel. Freddie's Rodolfo should be heard by anyone who hasn't yet, because it means hearing him in his vocal essence. And yesterday he did, thrilling the audience from the very beginning with a heavenly "Che gelida manina," ending with a crystalline high C.

Juliana Grigoryan delivers an infinitely beautiful Mimí, who also shone yesterday from the very beginning with the aria "Si, chiamano Mimí." Her young voice has a rich color full of contrasts between her lower registers and the delicate and powerful high notes of her voice. The voices of Lucas Meachem, Jongim Park, and Sean Michael Plumb completed the group of friends with a true display of vocal talent. Heidi Stober was yesterday a highly impactful Musetta in her essential high notes of the second act, in addition to combining stagecraft and vocal talent with her balanced and broad voice. Keri-Lynn Wilson's conducting provides an elegant and precise reading, balancing the power of this Puccini score with a musical clarity that highlights both the necessary intimacy of the first, third, and fourth acts, as well as the orchestral and vocal richness of the second act. Don't miss this performance at the MET; it's a festival of vocal excellence.

Esta noche The Metropolitan Opera House volvió a poner en escena la mítica Bohéme de Puccini en la producción maravillosa de Franco Zeffirelli. Una producción llena de color, detallista -sobre todo en el segundo acto, donde el Café Momus es un auténtico espectáculo escénico-, y emocionante. Pero no solo los vestidos, las escenografías y el atrezzo son íncreibles, sino que el cast escogido para empezar la producción de este año (a lo largo de 2025 y 2026 se irá reponiendo con otros casts diferentes) es estelar. Freddie de Tommaso, dejando atrás su infinito tour de Tosca con la que ha triumfado por todo el mundo, vuelve a uno de sus papeles más logrados. Su Rodolfo entronca con lo mejor de la tradición vocal que le ha precedido y se convierte en una interpretación magistral, donde su voz se amplifica como nunca y se convierte en una auténtica maravilla sonora. El Rodolfo de Freddie debe ser escuchado por quien aún no lo haya hecho, porque es escucharlo en su plenitud vocal. Y ayer lo hizo, emocionando al público ya solo empezar con un Che gelida manina celestial terminado con un cristalino Do de pecho. Juliana Grigoryan firma una Mimí de belleza infinita que ayer también brilló solo empezar con el ária Si, chiamano Mimí. Su joven voz es de un color lleno de contrastes entre sus registros más bajos y los agudos delicados y potentes. Las voces de Lucas Meachem, Jongim Park y Sean Michael Plumb completaban el grupo de amigos con un auténtico derroche de talento vocal.
